What is your vision for what your city should look like in 5 years? 10 years? Arroyo Grande will proudly maintain its historic charm, beauty and have economic independence. It will have sustained safety, thriving tourism, and be business friendly. We will boast of having the healthiest population and the best schools in the nation. There will be more indoor and outdoor activities such as a bowling alley, skating rink/event venue, a gaming arcade, and an increase in nightlife options. All will be thoughtfully and wisely developed. What do you believe is the most important issue facing your city today, and what will you do to address it? Sovereignty is critical. Our city, like many others in California, is being regulated into bankruptcy by Gov. Gavin Newsom and state legislators. We must protect our city’s charm, safety and assets, including our schools from nonsensical dictates that are destroying our beloved way of life.

Arroyo Grande’s municipal elections code
specifies for the election of council members that “any candidate for City Council must reside in, and be a registered voter in, the district in which he or she seeks election at the time nomination papers are issued,” but does not state the same rule for mayoral elections.
Matson confirmed this information in emails to The Tribune but added the residency rules change once the person takes office and that elected officials are “required to reside within the city limits of Arroyo Grande during the term of office,”pursuant to section 36502 of the California Gov. Code.
“If elected, I will ask the City clerk again about any restrictions or requirements, as I did before,” Powell told The Tribune. “If there are requirements, I will stay at the condo as per those requirements.”

Arroyo Grande mayoral candidate Gaea Powell records a speech by one of her supporters at the Tuesday, Aug. 27 City Council meeting. Multiple commenters said they were frustrated with the City Council’s decision to limit general public comment from three minutes to one minute. Gaea Powell was among the more prominent faces in attendance and used her time to voice displeasure with the council’s new comment rules. Powell said she wouldn’t comply with the council’s new rules — this is a public forum,” Powell told Ray Russom after she received a second warning during her comment. “No matter what you guys say, the Constitution protects me.” Former Arroyo Grande resident Pamela Storton said her old high school government teacher at Arroyo Grande High would be “turning in his grave” if he saw the reduction in public comment time. “When did this change? When did representative democracy change to a corporation?” Storton asked.

Supervisors Jimmy Paulding, Bruce Gibson, and Dawn Ortiz-Legg, many local schools board members, as well as Mayor Caren Ray Russom, along with her fellow Arroyo Grande City Council members are leading these efforts. These self- proclaimed social justice and identity politics advocates have taken extreme measures to intimidate, censor and wield their perceived power to abolish decades of well-established precedent so they can deprive citizens of their liberties. Actions that betray their sworn oath to the state and federal constitutions and erode American values.
Censoring Citizens - Mayor Caren Ray Russom and the Arroyo Grande City Council Cut Public Comment to 60 Seconds to Silence Me and Other Concerned Citizens
Only 10 people (20.5 minutes total) per a year average speak during general public comment but Mayor Russom and the Arroyo Grande City Council arbitrarily cut public comment to 60 seconds for items not on the agenda. The decision breaks decades of precedent of a 3 minute limit. 60 seconds deprives citizens' of their 1st Amendment rights. The Mayor claims those public comments are NOT AS IMPORTANT as public comments made for agendized items. So she decides what is important or not, and continues to make a mockery of our Constitutional Republic. Does she believe we are a Police State, Administrative State or a Monarchy? You decide.

Following my presentation to the San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors during public comment, those who want to silence and censor truth decided to prohibit the use of the audio visual equipment depriving citizens of their 1st Amendment right to FREE SPEECH. Those who voted for this don't want the public to learn the inconvenient truth regarding the grave harm their actions and proclamations related to Family Friendly PRIDE events, sexuality and sexual orientation (that include children) can and have had on innocent, vulnerable children and their parents.

My patriotism does not make me a homophobe, bigot...that I have been accused of being. We must stand with students who are being discriminated against as they are forced to accommodate a dangerous ideology that dictates male students (pretending to be females) be allowed in girl's locker rooms, bathrooms and safe spaces. Girls are also being forced to compete against males in girl's sports. All of these insane dictates are dangerous and harmful to all kids.
